Abstract

In reading is a way to get information from something written. The target of learning reading in the curriculum states is to understand the meaning of a written functional text and short simple essay shaped descriptive relates about environtment. Learning reading in English lesson set in standards of the level junior high school for students are able to understand the meaning of written functional text and short simple essay shaped descriptive text. This research is focused on learning reading descriptive text at the eight grade ofSMP Negeri 1 Angkinang school year 2015/2016. Students at this level are hoped to be able to comprehend the meaning of text and simple essay, to identify topic of the text and gather specific information from a descriptive text in daily context. Descriptive text has very significant role for students because descriptive text describes about particular person, place, or thing relates with the state of existing around us and a lot in their daily communication. This research uses design descriptive qualitative because of this research tries toget a sense of a descriptive study of learning reading descriptive text at the eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Angkinang school year 2015/2016. Necessary data in this research are taken from students who learn reading descriptive text and the problems faced by students at the eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Angkinang. The data are from observation, interview, and document. The problem faced by students in learning reading descriptive text are caused by: the problem in learning reading descriptive text is the students‟ difficulties in determined main idea in descriptive text. The first problem is teacher less gave tips and tricks in determined main idea in descriptive text. And, the second problem is the sentences of main idea is uncertain, there is the first paragraph and the last paragraph in descriptive text.
