Abstract
The objective of this research was to find out whether the students taught descriptive text by using picture family member chart have better score on the post-test than on the pre-test?. An pre-experimental design was used to gather the data, while a quantitative approach was used to analyze them. The research was taken by the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Banjarbaru. It was conducted in one class as in pre-experimental. The treatment was given fifth times, once pre test and once post test. The result of the analysis showed that pictures contribute greatly to the students in writing a descriptive text. It can be shown by the differences of the mean score of the post-test obtained. The result of calculation obtained the value of the t is 25,94 the degree of freedom (df) is 30. It conclude that the picture family member chart is effective in writing descriptive text. Referring to my experience in the research, i suggest other English teachers to use pictures as their teaching media and schools should provide more sophisticated visual aids to help students in learning English.
