Abstract

The strategy is defined as containing the planning of a series of activities designed to achieve specific educational objectives. In the context of teaching, strategy is the ability of internal someone to think, solve the problem, and make decisions. The Objectives of the research to know the teacher‟s strategies in teaching reading comprehension, to know the ways the teacher apply the strategies in teaching reading comprehension, to find out the strategies implications in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Banjarmasin. In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative research.Research studies that investigate the quality of relationships, activities, situations, or materials are frequently referred to as qualitative research. Descriptive research involves collecting data in order to answer questions concerning the current status of the subject in the study. Subject of this research was a teacher of English at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Banjarmasin. Object of this research was the teaching of reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Banjarmasin. From the research, the researcher found The teacher uses PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary and Test) strategy. In fact, the teacher‟s strategy is incomplete because the teacher does not use “summary”. From the research, the researcher concluded that PQRST strategies are the appropriate strategy to teach reading at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Banjarmasin. grade students who crave in learning reading should know the certain medias or techniques that can help them increase their reading comprehension from time to time, for the medias or techniques are not only applicable for the classroom but also in the daily activity life. Teacher as the figure in classroom are not only to teach but also to know how to design the materials and to choose the appropriate strategies applicable for the students. Yet, teacher should know some strategies to make students interested during teaching and learning in class. In additional, by using the strategies can help the teacher to teach systematically.
