Abstract

Writing is one way to express ideas, thoughts or felling trhough a symbol (writing) and used to communication inderectly. Descriptive text is a text type that is widely used in everyday life to describe objects, place, people, animals and so forth. Ability is a change of energy in a person who is conceived with the mind and preceded by a response to the purpose. Ability is wide enough, include activities such as deed, thinking, talking, seeing, and so forth. However, in the narrow sense usually the ability is more shown to the activities in the form of deeds. The purpose of this research is to know how the students ability in writing descriptive text at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 9 Banjarbaru. To find the data, the researcher uses a writen test. There were 32 students involved as population in this research and the research was conducted by using quantitative descriptive method. This study consists of problems, research objectives, methods, research findings and conclusions. This research focuses on students' ability in writing descriptive text. Descriptive text included into the text type that is not too difficult but still found some difficulties faced by students when writing this essay, this is the background of researchers doing this research. The components analyzed are grammar, vocabulary and spelling.
