Abstract

The statements of the problem are what the difficulties are faced by the students in reading narrative text? andhow do the students solve their difficulties in reading narrative text?. And the objectives of this research areto know the difficulties are faced by the students in reading narrative textand to know how the students solve their difficulties in reading narrative text. The research was used descriptive qualitative method. The researcher applied purposive sampling to determine the sample, because this technique is suitable for this research, that is for knowing the students‟ difficulties in reading narrative text. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the students at the eleventh grade of MA NurulHidayah got some difficulties in reading narrative text. The first problem was that the students lack in mastering vocabulary. So that, the students difficult in understanding the meaning of the whole text. The second was that narrative has a long paragraph. So that, when the students try to read it, they feel bored even confuse. It makes them can not understand what the meaning of the text and can not get what the purpose of the text they read. And the last problem that the students were unusual in reading a text in English. Although they have difficulties in reading narrative, they also have some efforts to solve their problems. The first effort was by adding their vocabulary mastery such as by opening their dictionary diligently, and by listening to some west songs and watching original west movies. Another effort was by consulting their difficulties to their English teacher. Second, was by practicing a lot in reading narrative text. Such as by reading comics or by went to the school‟s library, the library provided the children story that print out in English sentence.And the last effort is by to make a group of study that consists of some members and they tried to did their homework together. They divided their duty such as one student wrote the vocabulary that she did not know the meaning yet and the others looked for the translation of it Through the result above, the students must be able to practice the language by reading many other story books that can add their knowledge to understand English text in their daily activity. Besides, the teachers also should pay their attention toward the difficulties faced by the students in reading narrative text, and helped them to solve their difficulties in reading narrative text.
