Abstract
This aim of this thesis is to know how the use of descriptive text in learning reading at the tenth grade of MAN 1 Banjarmasin. And the objective of research is to know and describe the use of descriptive text in reading at the tenth grade of MAN 1 Banjarmasin. Research is a descriptive quantitative research. Quantitative data are reported in terms of score, Quantitative data are obtained when the variable being studied is measured along a scale that indicates how much of the variable is present. In this research, the data is in the from of score in finding main idea of English text.The research took place at MAN 1 Banjarmasin. The number of students in the tenth grade of MAN 1 Banjarmasin is 53 students. Which they are devided into two class. Ass this is a descriptive text research , so by the end this research there are some descriptive of calculations and numbers to represent how the students ability in reading descriptive text. Based on the number/value that students get is categorized into very poor,poor , fair, very good levels. The result of this research is that their abilities in comprehending descriptive text are at „„good levels‟‟.
