Abstract
Writing is one of language skills which is important for students in learning English. It becomes very important because it is one of communication tools. Throught writing, students are able to express their feelings and ideas. As the educational orientation for most of the school in Indonesia expect the students are able to write some types of genres. Baseed on KTSP for Senior High School, student are expexted to be able to write at least five genres: narrative, recount, descriptive, report, and procedure in the daily life context. Wheter the teaching and learning process has worked in writing recount text. So tha the teacher should evaluate the students‟ advancement. “ Everytheacher in higher education want students to understand important concept and their associated fact and procedures in his or her subject, but many students are unable to accomplish their goals. This research is aimed to find out the students‟ ability in writing descriptive text at the tenth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Banjarmasin. This research is done by writing descriptive quantitative research design. The students of class X B are taken as sample of the study. The conclusions based on the finding can be know on the result of this study. So the research has found that the total score is, because of the total number of students is 35, in order to get the mean, the researcher divided total score and the total number of students. So, the mean is. Based on this result, it can be said that the students‟ ability in writing recount text at the tenth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Banjarmasin school year 2017/2018 in class X A is in fair category.
