Abstract

Grammar is one of the components in language learning. At junior high school, grammar is an important component in learning English. By learning grammar, students can do their exercises well. As we know, the grammar of language is the way to describe the words that can change their forms. By studyng grammar seriously the learner can make the words into sentences, form the word that does not have meaning into sentences that have meaning.The objective of this research is to describe the ability of using conjunction in learning writing at the seventh grade of SMPN 12 Banjarmasin School Year 2017/2018. The research uses quantitative research. The researcher uses cluster sampling to determine the samples of research. The sample of this research is class VII with the total number of students is 34 persons. The instruments used in this research are test and observation.Based on the findings, in using coordinating conjunction, there are 16 students (47.1%) have good ability, 10 students (29.4%) have moderate ability, and 8 students (23.5%) have low ability. It means the ability of students in using coordinating conjunction is good. As the suggestion, the teacher is expected to give more explanation and exercises to use conjunction, focuses on coordinating in compound sentences. Besides, teacher is expected to apply yarious techniques in teaching conjunction.
